Electric Toothbrushes for Kids

Kids have the right idea when it comes to smiling : they smile about 400 times a day. Parents are always asking if they should invest in an electric toothbrush for their child going through orthodontic treatment. Although it’s possible to do an excellent job brushing your teeth with a manual toothbrush, today’s advanced electric toothbrushes make it a lot easier to maintain a sparkling smile!

The Sonicare for Kids is for younger kids (age 4-10) and features a smaller design, two gentle power modes, a built-in timer and KidPacer that actually plays musical tones to prompt kids to brush longer.

We recommend brushing for a full two minutes. Parents, time yourselves and see how you do. Brushing for two minutes feels like two hours, but it will make a world of difference in the health of your teeth and gums. And, with today’s research on the effects of bacteria in the mouth affecting the health of the body (click here to read more) we like to say (while pointing to the mouth) “germs here, germs everywhere.”

Dental Care for the Patient with Cleft Lip and Palate

It is very important for patients with cleft lip and palate to receive exceptional dental care. Frequently, parents ask us how the cleft will affect the health of the teeth when the child is older. We recommend early evaluation, since children with clefts are more likely to have missing, malformed or malpositioned teeth. Through early intervention and proper care, patients born with a cleft can have healthy teeth and beautiful smiles. When you or your child have a cleft lip or palate, it is never too early to find a dentist or pediatric dental specialist in your area.

The Cleft Palate Foundation has a series of excellent articles for patients and parents. Click here to read a great article on Dental Care for the Patient with Cleft Lip and Palate
